First be sure you update your digital art gallery on your website so that your digital collage is included.
This blog assignment has to do with the project you have just finished. Create a new post and include a photo of your project. In a paragraph or two, try to explain in detail how you created your final product. Be specific to explain, tools you used, where you included double exposure, etc. There are many different ways to accomplish various effects in GIMP so try to have your explanation give a clear picture of how your image was created.

Most of you are still working on the Floating Logo Tutorial in GIMP. Instructions for that are in the second drawer of the teacher desk. When you finish, make sure you print out a copy of your "floating logo" to submit for a grade. You can put your printouts in the second drawer as well (be sure to include your name).
When finished you may work on a blog post or sketchbook assignment due next week. We have taken a short break from blog posts because I have been gone so much but we are going to return to completing them on a weekly basis. Blog Post #6: Post about an upcoming event related to your theme.....a game, a concert, a trip. - your post must include a picture - your post must have text explaining the event - extra credit for things like surveys and links Alternate Sketchbook Assignment (you can do this instead of the blog post if you prefer: - Draw your hand...one of the most difficult things to draw in art is a human hand. Take some time to sketch your hand with all of the details you see. Be sure to include shading and value to create depth and contrast. This is not really a "Blog Post" but will take the place of your blog post this week. For this assignment you need to create a new page for your website. Title the page "Digital Art Portfolio" or something of that nature. Upload each of the projects we have created this year (total of 4). If you need for me to email you any of your projects as you cannot find them I can do that. just let me know. Or, you can just open and save them from my page titled JHS Digital Art Gallery. Create a caption for each of your images with the Project Title:
1.) Pencil vs. Camera 2.) Digital Color Wheel 3.) Digital Collage 4.) Low Poly Portrait This is a required blog post for EVERYONE. There is no sketchbook alternative....sorry. For this blog post you will be using a fun online app called ReciteThis. I have included a link below. First, search to find a favorite quote that is somehow related to your blog topic. Once you find it, go to ReciteThis and type your quote in. Choose a layout for your quote, then hit "Create". Once you are happy with your image, you can download it to your computer, and finally upload it to your blog. After you insert your image into your blog post, explain in a few sentences why you like this quote or how it fits with your blog topic. Be sure to include "Who" you are quoting and what they did in your explanation (see my example below). Have fun with this! Salvador Dali originally said this. He was a surrealist painter who was a pioneer in the concept of expressing subconscious "dreamlike" thought. At first his art was unappreciated and often times frowned upon. But like any great artist, he had ambition and pushed on. Yes, he obviously was creative, but without his ambition he would never have made it and we may have never gotten a chance to experience the art the emerged from this new movement of Surrealism. I think this quote can fit with any topic or profession. If you have the skill, but no motivation or ambition to pursue success, you may never reach it. On the other hand, if what you lack in skill you make up with ambition, you will go far.
BLOG POST OPTION:
Because we are starting a new project this week. Your blog post may be about whatever you would like to write about. Your only requirements are. - Your post must be at least two paragraphs in length - Your post must include a photo or video - Your post must include a link. SKETCHBOOK ENTRY OPTION: You may also choose to do a drawing of whatever you would like. Your Drawing MUST include... - An element of shading and value - Must take up the entire sketchbook page. - must include an explanation of why you chose to draw what you did (2-3 sentences) For this Blog assignment you need to do a bit of research on an "expert" in whatever category your blog is (chef, athlete, travel show host, professional outdoor sportsman, car/vehicle designer, auto mechanic, photographer, etc.)
Do a simple google search to gather some information on them. Some information to include. 1.) Name 2.) Birthplace 3.) Age 4.) How long they have been in doing what they are doing 5.) How they got their start 6.) Give us a few unique facts about them 7.) a link (using a button) to a website or video about them. 8.) Why you think they are successful. 9.) Anything else you think is interesting. Often times Blogs are used to address Frequently Asked Questions, or FAQ's about a topic. For your 4th Blog Assignment you need to come up with 5 frequently asked questions related to your theme and also provide the answers. Please note, you may look for example of FAQ's on the internet but may NOT copy and paste the answers. It is very easy for me to search to see if you copied a text word for word and I will be checking for this. Extra Credit: Incude videos, pictures, and/or links to enhance the content of your post. Example: Frequently Asked Questions About Oil Painting. Q: Do you recommend purchasing pre-stretched/primed canvas or building my own? A: Although it takes more time, I recommend building, stretching and priming your own canvas. By doing this, you have control over your primed surface texture and how tight or loose your canvas is. This method is also cheaper in most cases. Q: I have never painted with Oils before...what supplies do I need? A: First you need to get your materials. These are sold in art supply stores, some office supply stores, or on the Web at www.utrechtart.com. I would start with your paints: blue, black, red, yellow or yellow ochre, green, burnt umber (brown) and titanium white. Start with small tubes of the colored paints and a larger tube of white. You will also need a medium to begin oil painting. I suggest linseed oil and distilled turpentine. You will need brushes as well. Purchase whatever sizes you are comfortable with (below is a video explaining different types of brushes used in oil painting. You need a container for your oil and turpentine--Baby food jars work great. You will also need a brush cleaner and a palette - they come in wood, metal and glass as well as disposable paper palette pads. If you can afford it, an easel is good. Below are a few sites that are good for purchasing art materials. Q: I have never painted with oils before....how do you suggest I start? A: Start by painting two simple objects or a still life. Paint a few of these simple still lifes until you get a feel for how the paints move and blend together. Once you've gotten used to using a brush and paint, and painting simple forms. you can move towards more complex still lifes, or landscapes or figures. I recommend looking at a lot of art, to see how others have created images as well. The video below demostrates creating a simple still life with oils. For this weeks Blog Assignment, you need to create a "Top 5" post related to the topic of your blog. You need to come up with a list of the Top 5 ......... (plays, burgers, teams, places, images, vehicles, parts, manufacturers etc.) For each of the 5 things listed, you need to write a sentence or two about what makes them great as well as include a picture or video of that thing. I will give extra credit if a button with a link to a website or video is included with each item on your top 5 list. See my example below: Bucket List--Top 5 Bands I would like to see by age 35 1.) Shovels and Rope This folk duo are so talented. If you simply listened to their music, it sounds like they have 5 people in their band...not just two! They swap instruments every song and are their lyrics are fun and uplifting. 2.) The Lumineers: Since their first album release in , I have wanted to catch this band live. My brother in Colorado had the opportunity to see them when they were still pretty small. Either way, I'm sure they put on an amazing performance. 3.) Macklemore: Although rap is not really my preferred style of music and I would probably stick out like a sore thumb at a concert, I believe this man is a lyrical genius. He addresses so many important issues through his words and does it well. I love that his overriding message is that of tolerance, peace, and love. 4.) The Avett Brothers: I have had the opportunity to see this band many times. The first time was when they were just getting started...a crowd of 50...Now they are selling out stadiums. Although they are a very different sound than the previous artist, their values are the same. Their songs focus on family, and treating others with dignity and respect. 5.) Blitzen Trapper:
This Minneapolis band has been a favorite of mine for years. I got to see them at a music festival last summer, but a rainstorm came through and their set was cut short. That said, the few songs they could perform were amazing and I cannot wait until they come around again! Because we are resolving the "Survey" Situation, your 2nd Blog Assignment has changed. You can write about whatever you want. Your only requirement is that you include a BUTTON on your post.
This BUTTON needs to take your reader somewhere. It could take them to another site, a survey, a video or picture. It is up to you. For your Blog Page you need to first select a topic of focus. Whether it be media, gossip, celebrities, fashion, automobiles, hunting, food, travel, photography, art, colleges, sports, your school....the possibilities are endless. Below are some websites I have linked that can help you get some inspiration for what the topic of your blog will be. Remember, we will be blogging about this once a week for the rest of the semester so don't choose something you will get bored with. 1st: Create your blog page. Be sure to design the page and include photos and descriptions of the page and the topic(s) you will be blogging about. Yes, I said topic(s). If you cannot decide between two are three different topics we can create categories within one blog page. This way you can talk about different things and we can categorize them accordingly. *If you are interested in this option talk to me. 2nd: You need to respond to your first blog post. You have 3 options to choose from. - Comparison Post: State your opinion on comparing and contrasting something related to your theme. Be sure to include images of your comparisons. (Examples: compare products of which one you prefer or state an opinion about a certain place or thing related to your theme.) - A Tutorial Post: teach your readers how to do something. Images are a bonus in this type of post. - Write About an Event Related to your Theme (it can be global or local) Your first Blog post will be due on Friday. All blog posts from this point forward will be assigned on a Friday and due the following Friday. A good post is not a sentence or two. After you create your post, go back through and edit. Effort is a must. Your grade will reflect your EFFORT and TIME invested in each assignment.
